River City Grille owners Paul and Connie Brady and John and Belinda Kemper have a great appreciation for the Highland Lakes area. They have lived, worked and played here for most of their lives. Some of their best memories include water skiing, swimming and fishing on the surrounding lakes.
Wishing that more children could experience the wonders of the Highland Lakes, they thought, “How could we get more kids involved in lake activities, like fishing, and help the youth of the surrounding communities?” Ideas were cast about, and the concept of River City Grille’s Gone Fishing for Kids event took hold.
Like any good fishing story, the event grew bigger and bigger with time. The collaboration with and the help of many sponsors and community leaders turned a simple fishing tournament into a fun-filled weekend of competitive fishing on four lakes in the Lower Colorado River chain; educational events and activities for children; entertainment; and live music.
Most importantly, all of this fun is in the spirit of giving back to the community and investing in our youth. Every single dollar raised by the event stays within the surrounding communities and benefits organizations that support Highland Lakes youth.
The purpose of River City Grille’s Gone Fishing for Kids event is to get adults and youth out of the house and connected with nature; to create an appreciation for our natural resources; and to establish a generation of guardians who will help take care of our precious lakes, rivers and streams.
